About

The Luareload mark: the eight phases of the moon in a ring, and the 30 days of the month around itFull moonWaning gibbousLast quarterWaning crescentNew moonWaxing crescentFirst quarterWaxing gibbous29.53days
Our mark is one lunar month, read clockwise, the way ↻ turns. Around it run the month's 30 days: the ones gone are lit, and the red one is tonight.

Luareload is a small independent studio. The people who design our apps are the ones who build them, ship them and answer your messages.

Why the moon

Lua is Portuguese for moon. Every 29.53 days the moon goes dark, then comes back a sliver at a time until it's full again. Nobody calls that failing. It's a reload, and it's how we like to work.

Look at our mark quickly and it's a loading wheel. Look again and it's the moon. The short form of our name, Luar, means moonlight.

The name also splits more than one way, and the wordmark at the top tries them all: Lua reload, Lu are load, and Luar e load, which is Portuguese for moonlight and load.

How we work

  • Show what's inside. Every project says what it runs on and what it's made of. When something is paused, we say so on the front page.
  • Ask for as little as possible. No account where a name will do, and no passwords where none are needed.
  • Keep it calm. Fewer pings, fewer screens, fewer settings to fight. Good technology gets out of your way.
  • Go dark, come back brighter. We pause things instead of abandoning them, and bring them back when we can do them properly.
